Como a ideia começou...

Tudo começou com a participação da fundadora na AI Action Summit e na AI Global Summit no ano passado. Depois de receber respostas negativas das escolas para a sua «criança com autismo de nível 3», ela percebeu que a escola comum média não era a única opção. No evento de IA, ela conheceu investigadores em IA que falaram sobre educação; e eles repetiram várias vezes que o que existe agora se tornará obsoleto muito mais rápido do que as pessoas imaginam. Foi nessa altura que surgiu a ideia de que nós, como pais, poderíamos reunir a equipa certa para criar uma comunidade para crianças neurodivergentes que pudessem crescer juntas durante a próxima década, apoiando-se mutuamente e construindo um grupo seguro de profissionais e amigos com as intenções e objetivos certos. Também queremos criar uma instituição de caridade em breve. Recomendo ouvir o podcast Sensory Classroom, se ainda não o fez.

Não podíamos ignorar a grave falta de ofertas para crianças como as nossas. Criámos algo bom, divertido e propício à aprendizagem, algo que elas merecem, como toda a gente.

Reunimos uma equipa de diferentes partes do mundo porque acreditamos que uma cultura mista é necessária para a aceitação neste mundo tão vasto. Também criamos um ambiente para divulgar a mensagem de que todos têm direito a um ambiente de aprendizagem adequado às suas necessidades. A neurodiversidade é fluida e está em constante mudança na sociedade. O apoio emocional é importante. As necessidades sensoriais são cruciais para a aprendizagem. O nosso pessoal na 6 Sentidos tem formação de um professor SEN do Reino Unido, e o nosso objetivo é combinar a tranquilidade e o clima perfeito de Portugal para criar oportunidades para que as crianças com autismo sejam ensinadas de uma forma que lhes seja adequada. Ensinamos-lhes competências para a vida que apoiam o funcionamento independente. A terapia orientada para a criança é segura e, na verdade, deveria ser mais promovida, mas estas crianças às vezes (quase sempre) são forçadas a conformar-se. A nossa equipa também apoiará os pais com formação, abordando medos e desafios e compreendendo como desenvolver o plano de saúde educacional para a próxima década.

Dr. Leopoldo Gonçalves Leitão , ADVISOR

He serves as Assistant Professor at the School of Psychology and Life Sciences, Universidade Lusófona, and as a lecturer at the CRIAP Institute. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Brazelton/Gomes-Pedro Foundation for the Sciences of the Baby and the Family.

He is Co-Founder and Partner of HCO – Health, Care & Opportunities, Ltd., where he is responsible for clinical leadership, business development, and growth strategy. In addition, he serves as Director and Coordinator of the Autism | EPE Project.

A Full Member of the Portuguese Psychologists’ Association (Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses; Registration No. 947), he holds the Specialist Qualification in Clinical and Health Psychology and Advanced Specialist Qualifications in Psychotherapy (Psychodynamic Orientation) and Early Intervention. He is also a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPSS No. 732171).

Frida has a background as a professional dance performer with a physically and mentally demanding dance education and career. Her years of study at Balettakademien Stockholm and Dance New Amsterdam in New York City offered a wide range of dance and movement techniques taught by top-of-the-line teachers.

A supple spine is what keeps our body injury-free to be able to perform hundreds of high-intensity shows. Frida studied and practiced Pilates among other techniques to maintain and optimize the functions of body and mind, guiding and supporting adults. She strongly believes that movement is healing. Her passion for movement inspires others to understand their own body and its mechanisms.

Last year, she became a mother and embarked on a new and exciting movement journey, observing her baby go through developmental milestones into toddlerhood.

Michael Raffaele, ADVISOR

Attorney specialization rights of children with disabilities

Michael D. Raffaele has practiced as an education civil rights attorney in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States for the last decade. His work focuses on ensuring that children with special educational needs—particularly children with Autism, behavioral, emotional, and sensory regulation issues, and executive functioning differences—receive the supports that they deserve to be fully included in schools. In his time as an education rights lawyer, Michael has worked with parents, schools, evaluators, and related services providers to devise accommodations and modes of specially-designed instruction aimed at meeting each child where they are so that they have the chance to thrive academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Prior to his current work, Michael was in-house counsel for a children’s health system in the United States, a public defender, and an commercial litigator with a focus in pharmaceutical products liability. He now lives in Cascais with his wife, three wonderful children, and two mildly insane cats, and hopes to bring his knowledge of special education in the United States to bear to help families of children with special educational needs here in Portugal
